Every once in awhile I doubt myself. I think, I've been doing this for two years, shouldn't I be farther along? I can hear some of you laughing, saying "two years is nothing." I can hear others saying "girl, I can't believe you achieved all that in two years, in your 40's no less, do you know how lucky you are?" Neither of those perspectives is wrong. - - So then I try to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. As my friend @marissafreeman_uk said in a recent post, there are always going to be people farther along than you, and people who are not yet where you're at. - - And, I also remember something that my IG fitness guiding light, @missiemckain_fitness, said in a recent post: that she's been doing this for 17 years and there's no way she could have looked like she does now when she was three years into it and competing. - - And that's the point when I exhale. Because in my 20's, I was just thin without muscle tone. In my 30's, I was doing cardio and looked fine but wasn't muscular. For most of my 40's, I was completely out of shape. And now, at 50, I look better than I ever have....and I'm still nowhere near where I want to be. - - Because this is not a road that will end and then you're done. It's a journey, with ups and downs and twists and turns, and hopefully, ever evolving progress. That's the bad news and the good news. The one workout doesn't change you, but the hundreds of workouts will. You just have to keep showing up. - - Sometimes I regret that I didn't start sooner. But thinking back on it, I would never have put in as much effort as I did once I was facing middle-aged demise. This has been my comeback, and how sweet the victory tastes now. I can't even describe it. So....onwards I go. This is a perfect example of one of the many things that make doing a pike press handstand so challenging. At least for me it takes so much strength at the beginning to get the feet off the ground that it is very easy to just continue that initial push all the way through. If you don’t start backing off as you get close to vertical it is very easy to go too far and fall. It is also very easy to back off too soon or too much and then not get vertical at all. That’s what happened here.
