Yesterday we posted an image of a #foamfree flower install (I wouldn’t call it a wall because the results were airier) using a 100% organic, compostable alternative to floral foam. Thanks to everyone who answered, discussed and reposted! Our main point is to keep the conversation going on how we can find new ways to reduce waste and promote sustainability in the floral industry. We will be posting pictures, tips and our methods on how to use WATERMELON 🍉 as an alternative to foam on the Tin Can Studios blog in January. While you wait I want to point out that we only used 2 or 3 (@flowerschool_la students can you remember?) small watermelons for this exciting experiment. We will be sending out “Handpicked” books to @larkfarnumdesign @horticulturalalliancehamptons @rosewoodfloralco @briankempen @natasjakinnen who were the first five followers to answer correctly (please direct message us your mailing addresses!) If you don’t have the book already, it is my first book with descriptions on how to make arrangements using chicken wire or tape grid (no floral foam). Many of the recipes use somewhat simpler ingredients than what you might see here on our feed and is perfect for those of you starting out with floral arranging. It also works as a great gift for the holidays and it is divided into four seasons (hint, hint) Anyways… thank you all for participating in this ongoing conversation!
